Maskindynamikk AS - Vibration Analysis of Rotating Machinery
Services
Periodically

Periodically measurement of vibration makes it possible to monitor change over time. And to take   action only when needed.

Online   Monitoring by means of permanent mouonted sensors and Data Aquisition Devices (PC for nstance)   give more reliabe measurements, more frequent measurement and therefore better monitoring.
Accept   Measurement and reporting for documentation purpose
Vibration

Vibration measurement is done while the equipment is in normal operation, without the need of   stopping any production prosess or dismounting

Balancing

Balancing of rotating machinery is important to secure safe operation and long lifetime of bearings.

Accoustic noise

Accoustic noise is measured by means of a microphone and may be normalized to the human ear.

Shaft power

We measure shaft power by means of strain gauges and telemetry.

Torsional vibration

By using high samplingrate we are able to monitor and make FFT analysis of torsional vibration.

Cylinder preassure   By measuring cylinder preassure we can collect information about the condition of various   combustion-engines. Comparison between cylinders gives an indication of combustion in the   engine.

Periodical condition monitoring

  • One of our services is design and introduction of systems and routines for reliability based maintenanace of rotating machinery. Vibration analysis makes it possible to detect errors and damages at an early stage. This way repairs and maintenance in general may be scheduled days and weeks in advance. This is a big difference compared to periodic maintenance baced on running ours.

We offer these services to our customer:

  • Selection of appropriate measurement equipment
  • Advice concerning measurement point placement and mounting
  • Definition of database and measurement route
  • Initial measurements for reference and adjusting alarmlimits
  • Further measurement and/ or analysis.
  • Measurements may be exchanged using modem, email or ftp
  • Effects of condition monitoring
  • Lower damage frequency and more important; less severe damages
  • Reduced need for spare parts
  • Easy scheduling of maintenance and less reparing costs

Online condition monitoring

In some cases online monitoring is a better or maybe the only option for monitoring :

  • In cases where the customer is in need of monitoring during an extended periode of time.
  • It may be inconvenient to do traditional measurement due to space or other environmental limitations.
  • An other scenario may be monitoring for the purpose of detecting if or when some phenomenon occurs.
  • When the customer want realtime data presented on screen or through existing controlsystem.

An online monitoring system will allways be better then offline when it comes to :

  • Monitoring of many tags
  • Online will be able to collect much more data for trending and will therefore make it possible to do much better and reliable analysis.

Actions only possible using online monitoring

  • Continuous monitoring
  • Continuous alarmcheck
  • Builtin rules and conditions to decide what measurements should be done and how much data shuld be stored for further analysis

We use PC-based solutions for online measurements. This makes us very flexible. It allows us to develop special designed software for each case if necessary.

Accept control

  • Noise
  • Vibration

  • By doing measurements on new machinerey, or equipment which recently have been serviced, it is possible to document the state of the machinery.
  • This is intresting for the owner, supplyer and also for shipyard or service man and insurance company.
  • We represent a 3. party and may be objective in such matters.

Vibration

By means of vibration analysis we may detect bad operation conditions, errors and damages at an early stage. This way one may schedule repairs and order spare parts before the damage actually has caused an unwanted breakdown.

   Dangerous operation conditions :

  • Poor dynamic balancing of rotating machinery in general
  • Resonance in foundation, structure or critical rotational speed
  • Badly constructed foundations
  • Wrong characteristic of vibration isolators
  • External and internal misallignments
  • Bent driveshafts and rotors
  • Geometrical faults in geardrive and wheel
  • Critical cavitation in pumps and pipes

Damages on single components and critical errors

  • Electromagnetic dissymetry in electrical motors and generators caused by electrical faults
  • Spot damages, wear and tear in roller- and ball-bearings
  • Broken bolts and loose joints
  • "Rubbing" , contact between rotor and stator in an electrical motor or generator
  • Spot damages or wear and tear on geardrive and wheel
  • Damaged impellers
  • Cracks in driveshafts

Qualified analysis of measurement data is therefore important. Such analysis will give diagnosis of the problem and make a fundation for correct conclution and action. Our expertise and broadband experience combined with modern equipment for dataaquisition and analysis makes us able to help our customers taking the correct action and applying the correct technical solution to solve the problem.

Extensive knowledge regarding structural vibrations and our use of efficient PC-based tolls for analysis are both important reasons why you should consider choosing us as your partner when trying to keep vibrations to a minimum. We do calculation and analysis before construction, and make measurements to document the results

If rotating machinery is out of balance, it will result in damaging vibrationlevels and dangerous forces to other parts of the machinery. Especially the bearings. This will for sure cause reduced lifetime for bearings and other parts, and therfore higher maintenance costs.
When unbalance is the primary cause for the high vibration levels, we are able to bring the machinery back into balance by using modern balancing techniques. And documentation of the result.

Balancing

  • Rotating machinery out of balance may lead to high vibration levels, reduced lifetime for bearings and increased wear and tear in general.

Possible reasons for unbalance :

  • Under perfectly normal operating conditions bearings and moving parts gradually degrades . This may result in tiny misalignements.
  • When different parts are individually balanced, one may introduce unbalance when mounting parts together.
  • Already mouted balancing weights may have shifted into a wrong position/angle

We perform on the spot balancing where the machinery is completely operative.

  • This way we dont have to worry about all variables introduced when transporting or assembling the different moving parts.
  • The prosess is easier, faster and cheaper when balancing the complete machine as it is meant to be running.

Noise

  • We do noise measurements in accordance with international standards and demands from the customer, both for ships, offshore and onshore industries.

Shaft power and torsional vibration

  • Our proffessional expertise combined with modern and accurate instrumentation, make us a natural choice when it comes to measuring and documenting shaft power and torsional vibration.
  • We posess several channels telemetry and multi channel DAQ devices which makes us capable to do simultaneous strain gauge measurements from different shafts, multi channel vibration and other voltage and current signals in general, like pitch order, and feedback, roll, gps-reference, etc.

Cylinder pressure

  • We offer instrumentation for- and do measurements of- cylinder pressure our selves. Such measurements ought to be done periodically and by the slightest suspicion of damage.
  • By carefull analysis of the "track diagrams", one get information about the combustion prosess for each cylinder and a unique possibility to compare between cylinders.
  • This makes it easy to diagnos and take fast and correct action.
